Planning an eco friendly wedding includes everything from the ceremony to the food to where the wedding is located. That means considering your invitations, your party favors, your diamond engagement ring, your guest list, the food, what to wear and the time of year to have your wedding.

1. Make sure you have recycling stations at your reception. People should have a place to recycle beer bottles, soda bottles and other food materials. Recycle as much as you can throughout the wedding process such as cardboard boxes, paper and other materials.

3. Don’t use any traditional party favors or decorations. They look tacky anyway.

By borrowing a dress or buying a used dress you are not only saving the environment, but you are saving your budget, too. If you want to save on your budget a bit more, you could even find a used engagement ring.

5. Buy locally grown or organic flowers. You can also use recycled glass vases or jars. There are dozens of these at any thrift store. Or, just ask your friends or family members (like Grandma) what they have sitting around in their cupboards.

6. Keep the guest list small. This will cut down on the amount of traveling people will have to do to get to your wedding. It will reduce the amount of waste at the reception as well.

7. Donate all your unwanted wedding gifts to a thrift store rather than throwing them away.

8. Do everything that you can electronically, including the invitations and RSVPs.

9. Rather than register at businesses for your wedding gifts, why not suggest to your guests that they can donate electronically to pay for your honeymoon or something else you and your future spouse are saving for such as a house?

10. Hold the wedding and the reception at a hotel. If you do this, the guests can all stay at one place for the event and cut back on traveling.
